Claude
Add Covenant MCP to claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude Code and the Office add-ins.
Shortcut: click Copy Markdown above, paste this page into your AI assistant, and ask it to connect Covenant for you. An assistant that can edit its own settings does the setup; any other walks you through the steps.
Custom connectors work on every Claude plan: Free (one custom connector), Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. A connector added in Claude also appears in Claude Desktop, Cowork, mobile, Claude Code, and the Claude for Word, Excel and PowerPoint add-ins.
https://covenant.co/api/mcphttps://<your Covenant domain>/api/mcp instead. Transport is streamable HTTP; sign-in is OAuth with your Covenant login.Prerequisites
- A Claude plan with custom connectors. All of them: Free (limited to one custom connector), Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise.
- For Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner to add the connector for the workspace. Check Organization settings > Members if unsure.
- For Claude Code, a current version signed in with your Claude account, or the
claude mcp addcommand below. - A Covenant account for each person who connects.
Who does what
| Plan | Who adds Covenant | Who connects |
|---|---|---|
| Team, Enterprise | An Owner or Primary Owner, once, for the whole workspace | Each member, with their own Covenant login |
| Free, Pro, Max | You | You |
Add Covenant
Team and Enterprise: the Owner adds it for everyone
Open Organization settings > Connectors (claude.ai/admin-settings/connectors).
Click Add, then Custom, then Web.
Enter the name Covenant and the server URL https://covenant.co/api/mcp. Click Continue.
Choose these settings:
- Authentication: Sign in now.
- OAuth client: Use Claude's published identity (Recommended).
- Request headers: leave empty.
- Transport: leave at the default, streamable HTTP. Do not pick SSE.
Click Add. Every member now sees Covenant under Customize > Connectors.
Claude does not let you edit a custom connector's sign-in settings after you add it. To change one, remove the connector and add it again. Members then connect again.
Each member connects
Open Customize > Connectors, find Covenant, and click Connect.
Sign in on the Covenant sign-in page. If you belong to more than one Covenant organization, pick the one you want to ask about.
In a chat, click +, then Connectors, and turn Covenant on.
Free, Pro and Max
Open Customize > Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector.
Enter the name Covenant and the URL https://covenant.co/api/mcp, keep the default sign-in settings, and click Add.
Click Connect and sign in with your Covenant login.
Claude Code
If you sign in to Claude Code with your Claude account, a connector added in claude.ai is already there: run /mcp to see it and sign in. To add it directly instead:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user covenant https://covenant.co/api/mcpThen run /mcp inside Claude Code, choose covenant, and sign in.
Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Nothing extra. Once Covenant is connected in Claude, it is available in the Claude add-ins for Microsoft Office.
Check it worked
Ask Claude, in order:
- "Run the Covenant whoami tool." It returns your email, your organization, your role and your data scope.
- "List my investments."
- One question about a fund, such as "Summarize the fee terms in Fund X."
If it fails
| What you see | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Sign-in never starts, or Claude says it cannot reach the server | Connecting fails at once |
| "This account is not set up in Covenant" | Account not set up |
| Claude says the server does not support the published identity | Published identity not supported |
Everything else is on the troubleshooting page.
